Bartering - If They Can’t Afford to Pay Me, Can I Swap Advertising Space for a Service?
Not every business owner you approach will have $$$ to advertise in your business card display board. Maybe you can swap them advertising space for a service?

Andrew,
BINGO. Great Idea!
This is powerful. Some business owners just don’t have cash to give you right there and then. They might have the money in two months time…but you can almost kiss good bye to the deal if you get that objection.
So, based on what Andrew does, I would then hit them with a barter deal…no matter what they do/sell. Maybe you can get a free meal once per week in return for advertising space. What about if a restaurant went in 10 of your displays? Maybe you could do a ‘gift certificate’ swap. They know their hard costs are low….so why not give it a go.
And yes, most of us love a massage from time-to-time, so I would have to say this is a great idea posted.
Thanks Andrew.

I live on trades…restaurants, golf, tires, haircuts…I love to barter! Many times I raise the price a bit as well. Don’t be afraid to trade.

Hi guys, Last week I got a new client who loved my displays, and she said she would talk to all her friends and get them filled for me - already got two sales from her! I offered to give her a “rebate” for everone of her contacts that buys a space in my dispalys. I told her that if she’s good, then her ad will end up being free. This technique allows me to use her network to my benefit!
I got a new location in a small grocery store for another display. It’s part of a chain of stores, but I just went up to the manager and pitched her, telling her it would reduce the clutter at the entrance (there were cards and flyers all over a cork board). It’s in a small resort town so should fill pretty fast once installed.
Dean - I’ve been reading your concept to cash ebook - very nice work - you’ve got a lot to share and it’s right on the money - literally!

heresmycard…
I think your approach with rebating her for sales is a great idea. Gives you time to work on other displays…that’s what I call “cheap salesperson”…Is she going to service them as well?
Good luck and keep us apprised to the results.

SERVICES YOU COULD BARTER IN EXCHANGE FOR ADVERTISING SPACE.
You’ll often hear me referring to ideas you hear in this blog as ‘tools for your sales toolbox’. The reason I use this term is because the more ‘tools’ you have, the better chances you have of ‘build’ a great little small business for yourself. It’s all about having the options ready to pull out of your toolbox right-away depending on the potential clients excitement/skeptical level after you’ve explained the concept to them.
I would like to make a suggestion here that could help you….
Make a list of all the services that you utilize as a consumer on a day-to-day basis, like…
Getting a haircut
Eating at a restaurant
Groceries
Getting your oil changed
Getting a massage (Luxury)
Dentist
Do you play a sport?
What you want to acheive is to NEVER pay for that service again.
EG. Lets just say you are going to a restaurant this coming Friday night…why not call the owner that day and tell him that you’re booked into his/her restaurant tonight (butter them up alittle). Then, tell them what you do and that you would love to do a barter deal with them, and that you’ll bring the display with you tonight to show him what it’s all about. (I think the owner will agree to seeing the display given that you’re booked in to eat there
)
There are so many different ways to use business card displays to make money! Your costs are very low, and so are most service based businesses…so in the example above, the restaurants ‘costs’ (for the food) are low, and so are yours. You could tell them that you charge $400 per year! (In this example, you might tell them that you will pay for any alcoholic beverages to assist the deal).
That’s my thought for this relaxing Sunday afternoon.
Any other creative thoughts/suggestions about bartering advertising space for services?

By the way, I’ve also found a lot of value in trading for services. I’ve been receiving chiropractic care and massage and Pilates classes for months now for free in exchange for advertising. They don’t mind because it’s not costing them any money to work with me, but it would sure cost me if I paid them like regular customers do!
