Hello Dean,

Good move on cancelling the login requirement. Can already see more traffic.

Would like to ask for your feedback. Was out this afternoon, and stopped into 3 gas stations with my display, in hopes of securing the locations.

1st Chevron went well. The owner liked the idea, but wanted me to talk to her husband tomorrow when he's there. That one looks good.

Then drove a mile down the road to another independently owned Chevron. This one was pretty busy inside, but had the chance to speak with the owner for a few minutes. He liked it, but said he would not host the display. His concern was once you allow one advertising medium in, then you've got to allow all the others. Basically an "everyone or no one" policy.

Thanked him for his time and headed on down to Tesoro. Went in and talked to the manager on duty. She let me know their corportate policy and that she didn't think it would be allowed. She did give me the corporate number. I plan to call and see. There's 2 Tesoro gas stations in town, so hopefully I can get in.

Have you, or anyone on the forum run into the issue of having resistance when trying to secure the corporate type franchise locations?

Would love any feedback out there, in that this will also help everyone trying to get their business off the ground.

Thanks,
Dustin

Hey Rick, thanks for asking how things are going here in Hawaii.

Good right now. Got a little sidetracked in May for a few small reasons, but I'm back at it now.

I'll be in touch via this forum.
A great place to learn and share ideas!

Where are you starting your business?

Regards,
Dustin

Hi Dustin,

Sounds like you're putting in some excellent ground work!

Getting corporate clients will take time, and going to the actual physical business and talking to the store manager is almost a waste of time. You will always get interest, but never a decision there and then. These types of deals need to be approached from the top, and through persistance (almost harrassment) you'll get the head honcho to agree. It's only the independantly owned stores that you will have any success with. Which leads me to your question above about the guy worried about letting you host the display in fear of other advertisers wanting similar...

If that's what he's concerned about, then it's important that you address that issue direct and on the spot. Whenever I get an objection, I always repeat their objection back to them with a solution attached... for example... if they say "I'm worried about hosting your display because then everyone else will want to put advertising here"... well then I would say... "So if I can show you a way to host my display, but without everyone else wanting to advertise here, would you go ahead with it?" This will put him on the spot and turn it all around in your favor real fast.

So if he says "YES", then you just need to come up with the answer to close the deal. An answer you could use is this scenario could be... "Ok, that's great... the way we can do this is that I'll sign a 6 or 12 month exclusive advertising deal with you that says i'm the only company who can advertise in your store, therefore when you get approached by any other companies, you can simply tell them that you have an exclusive deal signed with my company... does that make sense?" (Always end with a question to draw out any further objections hiding underneath).

If you can get in the habit of addressing objections on the spot by repeating what they say with a solution attached (will only come with practice), then your conversion rate to get these type of deals in the bag will skyrocket.

Hope this helps.

Great solution, Dean! I will definitely keep this one handy as I am preparing to begin looking for host locations within the next week.
