Create Advertising Opportunities, Don’t Pay For Them!
Ok… if you’re sick of the ’sky high’ rates it costs to advertise these days, then get over it, because now you can create you’re own advertising medium and get people paying you!
There’s a big difference between paying for advertising and creating advertising opportunities for yourself… one is called an entrepreneur, and the other is just happy to pay someone else to think for them. BIG TIP: The people that make the most money in this world are the people who think for other people. Sounds simple right? Good news… it is.
Most business owners (including business card display owners) get complacent at some point when it comes to lead generation and creating new ways to make money for themselves and their family… i’ve been guilty of that in the past myself… absolutely. The problem is that when you make a few sales, you suddenly think it’s all working and you’re going to get referrals etc. The sad news is that ‘hoping’ your clients will tell other business owners about your advertising offer is really just a pipe dream… it just doesn’t seem to work that way 99% of the time… especially long term.
What options do we have?
There’s two options. 1) Get creative 2) Think outside the box.
Get creative: Remember this… as long as you’re doing what other business owners are doing, you’re going to be competing with them and blending in. Most biz owners are great at what they do (or sell), but they seem to forget that knowing how to market their product is far more important than the product itself. If you’re a business card display owner, don’t forget you have to get creative in the marketing department to make it work!
Think outside the box: The good news is that you don’t have to think too far outside the box to jump into the top 5% of business owners who do actually think about alternative ways to market their product.
What you are about to read (I created it from scratch) could be thought about like this: You know how a property developer buys a big block of land and then subdivides it up into smaller lots to sell for a profit? This idea is the same concept (please read it word of word).

Dean,
Had an appointment today with the Director of our local YMCA. My goal was to secure the location to place a display.
He liked the product and the gas card idea, but said no. He won’t allow any advertising other than non-profits.
He commented, “If I allow your display in here, then I will get a lot of members asking to display advertising. Real Estate agents, insurance salesman, etc.
I understood his position, and wasn’t quite sure how or if I could overcome that objection.
Do you have any suggestions? I’m glad to have smaller locations onboard willing to host a display, but I would like to have a few bigger players in the mix.
