One of the best ways is t let people in for free!
Once you have them in there, then it’s a different ball game. This is when you can start to play them off eachother to ’secure the spot’. You should always report back to your clients as to how many of there cards have been taken also, this gives them security in the fact that someone is loking after the display and ‘ontop of things’!
One other point, is that the more displays you have clients cards in, the higher the probability of the getting calls! so don’t be shy to give away a few spots initially. You also increase your chances of business owners calling you to enquire about advertising in your displays!
Hope this helps!

It seems to me that putting cards in for free is something of a detriment. I’ve found that people want to advertise for as little time as possible already (for their first contract) to see how effective it is. So, it seems to me that if a business goes in for just a week, it’s pretty likely they won’t get a call that week and won’t be interested in paying for more non-results. I start witha 6-month minimum contract, since I know how advertising can be so “hit or miss.” After I put up my displays, I got NO businesses calling about advertising, then in one week I got 4 calls!

That is an interesting way to look at it…and I agree with you…although I have had a good experience the other way aswell.
Putting people in for Free is certainly a last resort…not a first option. The way you sign them up for 6 months first up is perfect and i’m sure you might even get the odd person for 12 months?
What I think is good in this case, is that if someone pays you for 6 months for one display (for example), then you could also put there cards in your other displays for FREE without telling them. This would only occur if you had the free spaces to start with of course.
Doing this will increase the chances of the advertiser getting more calls and in turn increase the chances of them re-newing with you!
It’s great to hear your getting calls from your displays…that makes things alittle easier!
Great job Andrew…your input in valued.
Talk soon.

I had the idea of getting a 1000 business cards made up and always carrying a bunch in my pocket that have a free offer.
The thought is that no matter where I am, I can stick it on car windows of parked cars (ones that look like business cars of course).
I think this could work with the right offer.!
Any thoughts?

Because this concept is new in my area, there has been some resistance to getting owners to sign up for 12 months. I know that it is important to have the displays looking busy from the moment they are installed, so I have been offering a half price 3 month trial offer, and it’s been well accepted so far. I’m also splitting the cards amongst the other displays so the advertiser gets more exposure (and hopefully more calls) and all displays look equally busy. I’m not printing cards for them at this price - just utilizing their existing business cards. Aaron’s idea of the drop box for free ad display is a good idea and I will have to try that. I’ve also put a call to action on my placard that promts business owners to call me for how to advertise in the displays. Another thing I did was pull some cards off of bulletin boards and called the business owner to pitch them on my displays as a more effective networking tool.
Thanks for the ideas, keep ‘em coming…

Hi Bizcardexpert,
Glad you got something from that email…I know I did. I got straight on the internet and organised a joint venture with a company that has 3000 email addresses on their database.
Here is the email that bizcardexpert is talking about for those of you who didn’t get it for some reason. It refers to staying motivated and using this forum to the maximum and contributing. Here it is…
Hi Everyone,
This email goes out to those who has a copy of my manual.
I have written this message just for you this morning, so take
2 minutes now to read it…hopefully you will get the
message behind it.
Let me get right to the point here.
I AM SHOCKED AT THE LACK OF INPUT ON THE FORUM
FROM MOST OF YOU!
This can only come down to a few reasons why you wouldn’t use it:
1) You have a thriving business and know everything there is to know
2) You aren’t really that motivated to make money with this business
3) Your a ‘taker’ and not a ‘giver’.
4) You can’t work out how to log in (email me if this is the case).
5) (Don’t own displays yet? NO excuse…you can join in with your
questions as well!)
This business is not easy, but it can be made alot easier if we all act
as a team and build. Simply log in once every couple of days, have a
read and ask/answer questions.
If you feel you don’t have time to have input, then that is a problem
within itself…because if you are starved for time, then you are the
first person that should be asking questions!!! Time is what you
can get back if you have a real go at this business.
For me, I have been at it for 4 years straight…I asked plenty of questions
and didn’t waste time ‘beating around the bush’ and ‘hoping’ something
could work in the beginning.
If your not financially where you would like to be, or your in a job…
GET TOUGH ON YOURSELF!!!
The amount of people that just make up any old excuse to do nothing
amazes me.
Imagine your over weight and you want to shed the pounds, wouldn’t
it be best if you put a picture of yourself in swimwear on the fridge door
for anyone to see? Now how fast would you work on losing that weight?
No special ‘amazing’ diet needed there!!!
Maybe you should put a big sign on your car saying “I have a JOB and can’t
even take a nice holiday”, and don’t take it off until you fix it! This would surely
remind you that you need to STEP UP right?
Create pain around your situation, this is the only way to get going fast in the
right direction (most people avoid pain). Put leverage on yourself!!!
This email is nothing more then a reminder about making money, just like the
paragraphs above are about losing weight and working for yourself.
This email may come across alittle strong. If I have induced a ‘motivating’ feeling
within you after reading this, then that’s good, otherwise the comfort zone is
where you will stay. You will get more ’shocking’ emails from me in the future…
don’t worry, I used to get PLENTY when I started. If ’shocking’ you is what it
takes to assist you to move forward, then that is what I will continue to do.
You will thank me for it one day.
Let me give you a small example:
When I was trying to make more money while working a job, the guy that got
me involved in business used to really make me mad sometimes with his
comments about how crap my financial situation was (it was my fault of course),
but I didn’t see it that way. Before to long he said “Ok, your going to speak at my
seminar infront of 100’s of people and tell them what you know about getting
motivated”. Lucky I was wearing my brown underpants that day!
I did it, and it was WAY outside my comfort zone, but once I got swarmed by
people at the lunch break, I new it was a good thing that my ‘mentor’ had
pushed me that way.
6 months later after doing these speeches many more times, I had 3 properties, a nice car
and my own aircraft (I’m a pilot).
You can do it to, and if you have already had success in life, keep going!
Use the forum and you will make money, because MONEY MAKING
ideas will flow for months and years to come!
I’m here to support you on the forum!

Hi heresmycard,
What you are doing is great. I have always been of the opinion that you should do whatever it takes to get your displays full.
Once they are full, then the power is in your hands. You can start taking people out that you used as ‘fillers’ for other displays. OR you can tell them that they are being removed and substituted for a paying customer. Me, well I would remove them, replace them with the paying customer and put the removed business into your next display as a ‘filler’.
Once you get a 8-10 clients, then you will really move along quick, because your natural confidence and conviction will esculate dramatically!
Yes, Aarons idea is very good. This is a numbers game. My advice on this business for everyone is …
GET GOOD AT MARKETING!
Do the numbers and you’ll make money.

Hi Dean
I don’t know if I can ask this question here but I am looking for a location contract sample that I can use to sign up location. I hope you can help me with this.
Thanks in advance.

As I told you in a preview posting, I designed the display with more brochure capacity than other in the market. I have a contract template to sign up advertisers, I just need to get something for the location.
The 2 displays that I placed, I didn’t sign any contract yet. I wonder if this is really necessary?
Thank for your quick response.

I have changed my mind about making the displays look busy. I used to think if there were too many empty spots…looked like they weren’t selling. Now I put them out with one or two and wait for the calls…and they will come…especially if you have the location on board and earning a referral commission.
If you feel you need some cards in the display to look full…put some freebies in until space is gone…but leave at least 4 or 5 empty…not one!
This business is like looking in a Kalidescope…everytime you look it changes and it changes with locations. Just try new things and adapt.

Hi all,
Here’s a great idea that I heard a few days ago, wish I’d though of it, but thanks Nic, I’ll share it with everyone.
How many pages of printers are there in your local Yellow Pages ? - probably loads, and whats the very first thing people think of getting when they are ready to start a business ? - Yep, Business Cards, so who better than a printer to recommend advertising in your business card displays.
Here’s the idea. Create a busines card display info pack / brochure and go and talk to every printer in your area that will listen. Then give the printer a commission for each person who he signs up to advertise in your displays. The more displays the higher the commission.
All the printer has to do when someone walks in and orders some business cards is to give them your business information, print an extra 1000 cards and take the order, you organise everything else. Its a win / win all around. You leverage yourself with every printer in town. Each printer is earning a commission for selling the space - easy, and the new business is getting some much needed exposure and advertising for a very reasonable rate. You have gained a client with a NEW business who is more likely to be open to new advertising ideas. A no brainer and a brilliant idea that I am going to implement asap - Thanks again Nic from Christchurch NZ.
