How to Use Your Business Card Dispenser to Make Money from the Local Community Centres…
Here is an email I got from a business card display operator…another great idea!
“Hi Dean…First of all, I have a wonderful angle for you to share with your crew. I am putting together a package whereby we will provide a card display for a Community centre. They are always asking their members/community residents to advertise in their newsletters, and most do because it only costs them $75/month or so. We are going to package up a display with the community centres as a value added means for their clients. Essentially, we will tell them to sell their ads for $125./month and keep $25 while we take the other $25.”
This is a nice win win situation, because that advertisers are already paying $75p/m…and this relevant ‘add on’ (upsell) raises more money for the community center, and the supplier of the business card display makes a good chunk of change aswell!
Has anyone else targeted this type of location?

Hello All!
This definitely works. I just placed a business card display in the local community sports facility that my daughter plays basketball at.
These organizations have one fundraiser after another all year long to raise money for the center.
They also have lots and lots of wall space to place them as well as hundreds of parents standing around each week watching their sons and daughters play their games. I place mine right in front of the snack bar!
A perfect situation for a business card display!
I approached the fundraising coordinator about placing a display in the facility and giving a percentage to the center.
I agreed to handle the whole operation of filling the displays. They would basically get a check for each slot sold.
She thought it was a great idea.
Lessons learned:
1) The fundraising coordinator is usually a very overworked person that tries to coordinate a number of activities during the year. Make sure that you stress that you will handle the entire process. If they can raise a couple of thousand extra dollars without any additional work they are almost 100% guaranteed to say “yes”.
2) Ask about any vehicles they might have to spread the word about the display to the members.
In my situation they offered me a free 1 page ad in an upcoming booklet that was going to all the members.
I also agreed to give a FREE slot as a prize for a ‘Monte Carlo’ night they were having.
They were willing to give me a small ad on the front of the website also.
Just targeting these types of facilities with a well thought out process could enable anyone to place 5 stands rather quickly.
3)Consider writing up a one page letter announcing the fundraising activity and the cost and handing them out at the front door on a Saturday (when alot of games are scheduled throught the day) to announce the display stand. Stress that only x number of (however many slots your display has) small businesses will have the opportunity to have their card or service displayed in this facility for the entire year.
Most of the parents will be in some type of profession where they could benefit from this advertising (plumbers, landscapers, real estate, etc..)
Definitely give this a try!!!!
P.S. They are in the process of building a brand new bigger facility and she commented that they would need multiple displays at that time. Works for me! ![]()

The more I think about it, the more I really like these type of locations….like youth clubs, churches, community centers, sports clubs etc. The reason is - they are always looking for new ways to generate revenue and raise money to improve facilities, send sporting teams away and so on. Advertising is one of their biggest revenue creators for these organizations outside of kids selling raffle tickets and chocolates, so surely there is a way for you to ‘move in’ with your ‘advertising revenue generator’ (card display).
If you simply approached the manager of the organisation with the outcome of “showing them a way to generate more advertising revenue”, you should EASILY get a display into their location. I would also be finding out how it could work in with their current advertisers also. It’s unlikely you’ll get rejection because a business card dispenser plays right into their hands, as a way to make more money from advertisers and raise funds.
You may even find that local businesses you approach to advertise in the your advertising dispenser will be open to writing you out a check if they know a portion of their check goes to a local community center! This is almost like a charity angle…which always goes over well!
Would anyone like to make a suggestions as to what ‘angle’ could work? This could work very nicely.
Please contribute here.
