How to Get Large Hardware Companies Like Home Depot Interested in Hosting Your Biz Card Displays.

Posted on March 2nd, 2008.

Here’s an interesting idea emailed in by Dustin in Hawaii regarding how to get large companies like Home Depot interested in hosting your displays. Thanks for sharing Dustin!!

 Dean,

The darn part about being an entrepreneur is that I constantly lay awake at night thinking of new ideas. Couldn’t fall asleep until 3am. this morning with this one…

I’m considering placing a display at one of the big home improvment stores in our area. It would be a “Help around the home” type of theme display, where the advertising spots will focus on plumming, electrical work, carpet cleaning, landscaping, fencing, painting, pest control, home refinancing, etc. Businesses who will not have a conflict of interest with the store.

We’ll use Home Depot just as an example. To make this a win-win for everybody, rather than asking each advertiser to offer your typical 10-15 percent discount on their cards within my display… I will ask them to give any new customer/client a Home Depot Gift Card as incentive to use their service.

Here’s example text that could be on the back of this company’s biz card… “Bob the Painter” … Receive a $100 Home Depot Gift Card for any painting job of $500 or more.

I’m sure you can see that using the above example could create a nice revenue stream for Home Depot, Lowe’s, or any type of hardware store you place your displays in.

For the advertisers this would be an absolute ideal place to reach home owners… who by the way would love a “Home Depot” gift card… since they already buy from there!

Playing devils advocate, two thoughts came to mind..

1st.. will need to either print everyones card with their “Home Depot offer,” or get a rubber stamp made up for each advertiser, and stamp the back of each card with the appropriate offer, both requiring more time.

2nd – If an advertiser decides not to honor the offer and fails to give the new customer a gift card… this could create problems.

Would love to hear your feedback, and anyone else out there who likes to think outside the box!

It’s easy to see how this win-win concept could be applied at many other locations across industry lines.

By the way Dean, when the above scenerio materializes at such a prime loction, wouldn’t you agree that the advertising price should go up, from the going rate of one dollar a day? Especially if each advertiser has exclusive rights to their business category, and will not have competition within the display.

Regards,
Dustin
