How to Use a ‘Bait’ Offer to Get Customers Buying
Hi Everyone,
What you’re about to read is a simple marketing idea that any traditional business can use to attract more customers, no matter what you sell. Please understand this may not be directly involved with business card displays… it’s more about throwing practical ideas out there which can be adapted however you choose to make money with.
Here’s the idea I learn’t yesterday:
I walked into a butcher store yesterday because I saw they had very cheap chicken sausages on sale. Normally they run at around $6.00 per kilo in other stores, but this store was selling them for only $2.49 a kilo. So me being the curious type, I asked why are they so cheap?
It just so happened that the store was quiet, and I got talking to the young guy behind the counter who ’spilt the beans’ without even knowing it (That’s staff for you!). Here’s my summary of what he said:
‘The boss uses the cheap sausage pricing as the ‘bait’ product to get people through the door, because once people are in the store they’ll buy most of their other meat needs’
Sounds simple doesn’t it? Well in my humble opinion it’s a very smart idea… very smart. The hardest part about business is getting people through the door, so if you have a product you can offer at cost price (don’t expect profit) to attract customers, then you can sell them other high profit margin goods once they are in the door. Simple.
When you think about it, alot of businesses already do this. EG. What about ‘happy hour’ at the bar? Ok… you can get a beer for $2.50 between 5pm-6pm… so what happens after that… it’s dinner time right? Why not eat at the establishment you’re standing in… you’re already there… and why not enjoy another full price drink while your at it!
Simple human psychology can be played to your advantage quite easily, and as long as the product you’re selling is honest and ethical, then it’s perfectly ok. I think they call it marketing?
So what could your ‘bait’ product be?
Comments and feedback always welcome
