That’s an interesting way of putting it Dave! (”A dog with a sign and note could do this”).
One thing you should always remember is to keep it simple. The moment you get to ‘fancy’ with what you are trying to do…or the moment you over complicate the process by bruising your brain with what ‘could happen’ (which will influence the conviction and belief in your voice when speaking to a client), you need to remember that the display almost sells itself, because it’s a visual tangible item.
Selling internet advertising is something people CAN’T touch or feel. Business card displays are a device that they CAN get the ‘feel’ for right away…literally!
Obviously there is work needed as to why they should advertise in your business card display, but let them feel the sensation of what one of their cards will look like coming out of the display, and you will be most of the way home in the sales process. I have written a section in the forum about a sales technique that will explain this to you in further detail.

Thoughts about Getting started:
For those of you getting started with your business card display advertising boards, make sure you use this forum as much as possible….here’s why:
Firstly, when the courier turns up at your door, the first thing your going to think is “I didn’t order any pizzas??” No No…they are your new display boards…oh!!
Next, you will think, “ok now what…time to search for ideas on how to make money with the displays as quick as possible”.
KEEP IT REAL…IT TAKES TIME!
Let me describe what I mean here….
When you get your displays, it’s like your a ‘diamond in the rough’. You know how a diamond looks like a rock before being cut? Well look at this forum as your toolbox, and with the questions you ask and ideas you post, you will be able to slowly cut and polish that diamond into a beautiful artform that you will be proud of.(and make money from:)
OR
You know those padlocks that have a combination of 5 numbers that you must spin around and line up correctly to crack the code? Well when you start this busines, the code is all messed up…and slowly, as you learn new techniques and ideas from this forum, the numbers will drop into place and before to long, your business card advertising display boards could be making you great money.
The problem is most people give up after only getting two or three of the numbers to drop. The beauty of staying persistant and ‘cracking the code’, is that you just keep doing the same thing over and over again!
This forum is all about cracking the business card display code!
Persistance pays.

Here is another simple part of the process you should be doing at all times.
Keep a pen and paper with you at all times. Remember, you are now in the sales business, and every business person/location is generally a prime target for your business card display boards.
Everytime you drive your car you are going to pass cars with advertising on them, you are going to pass businesses that can either host or advertise is your display board. The list in endless. So make sure you write down every contact number and business you see that could be targets, otherwise you will forget them. Jot a little note down next to the business name and number “location potential”, “advertising potential” or “both”.
It’s much easier to wake up in the morning and having a list of potential clients ready to call, rather then trawling through the phone book and internet thinking “should I call this person?.”
Take notes all the time…this is YOUR business and no-one is going to hunt for prospects for you!

To expand on what you are saying about writing down potential locations or advertisers…I have been carrying a little recorder…an inexpensive SONY that does not use tape…I have it right beside me in the car and I write numbers down I see on trucks, anything…at the end of the day…I write them down.
Its a basic way…but it works…

Remember, you need to package yourself too! and you should do so in a way that is appropriate to the occasion.
Like a product on a shelf, how you package yourself, how you walk, how you talk and sometimes even the car you drive is all part of the impression you create. Before you open your mouth you will have already created a lasting impression!
If you’re happy, you tell your face about it – that’s packaging too! If your teeth are a little bit rotten go get them fixed – that’s packaging because when people look at you, you don’t want them to be distracted by poor grooming, especially in a sales environment.
All these things make a massive difference in the end, because at the end of the day, they say people only listen to a SMALL PERCENTAGE of what you say, so how you sit, how you stand, your general demeanour and what you wear – in short, your physiology, has 35% of the impact of the message that comes across. All these types of things make a massive difference and it’s all packaging.
You might be saying your best thing, but if they’re looking at your nostril hair. It’s an uphill battle!
Let me give a clear example to demonstrate what I mean here…. If you were buying a house for say….$300,000, and the real estate agent turned up in the latest Ferrari, what would your first thoughts be? What about if he turned up on an old motor scooter?
See how impressions can be created before a single word is said? This is all part and parcel of sales….and it doesn’t matter what you’re selling…business card display advertising, houses, boats…whatever.
So yes, do double check to see if you have nostril hairs poking out of a morning, or if your hair is spiking upwards and outwards. The more distractions you create when someone is speaking to you (visually), then the lesser chance they are actually focusing on the task at hand, which is buying your offer.
If you are thinking “what does this have to do with selling advertising in the displays”, well I believe has alot to do with it. You can have the best product and offer, but if they don’t like the look of you for whatever reason, then it’s all over.
Just a small pointer to add to this ‘balance’ of getting it all right.

I am so happy to have found your site. I purchased my business displays last July and to be honest, I never did anything with them. I now want to go full force and start this busines but I felt I needed
some support and was so glad I stumbled onto your site. I plan on purchasing some of your manulas today and will come back for future support and updates. What a great idea for you guys to come up with this business card display support for all of the operators out there!

The more displays you have the easier it becomes . . .
I have quickly built up a good number of displays, and I can say that it is so much easier talking to a potential advertiser saying, “yeah,we have 17 displays up around town, showing them the list and pictures of where they are located, showing them the other advertisers that have commited to a space etc than saying we only have one or two up.
The lesson here is that the advertisers can see that other people know and trust the displays to work so they find making the decison easier and making my job selling the space easier.
I can also offer the advertisers a free spot or two in other displays as an incentive to advertise on a 12 month contract.
So if you can afford it, buy as many displays as you can - 10 is a good starting figure, but the more you have the easier it becomes. Concentrate on getting 10 out and then fill them as quick as you can, then start building on your success.

How about “Keeping it Simple”
I don’t mean to make light of our business but in my opinion this truly is “Show and Tell”. I walk in with my display in an artists portfolio…they aren’t used to seeing cases like that and pull out the display…BAM! A dog with a sign and note with the prices could sell spaces at the prices we are offering to “hand” out their business cards for a year.
I LIKE SIMPLE…love the idea of the scrolling display above ours!
