Low Cost Idea to Generate Leads for Your Business Card Dispenser Operation
The outcome for this blog is to get as many ideas on paper so you can pick and choose the ideas that you think might work for you.
Marketing business card displays is no different to marketing any other ‘product’… you need to get your message infront of business owners, and sometimes what you think might work doesn’t, and vica versa.
As I was doing my daily scan of the internet to search out ideas that you can use/test, I saw an idea that was kind of ok, but once I put some further thought into it, I came up with something that would be interesting to test. It’s very simple and is just another angle to get your message infront of people.
You know how most business owners have a coffee cup they use, and a couple of other back-up ones sitting around? Well I figured this could be a perfect little ‘gift’ to give to them…. with a ‘Plan B’ behind the gift of course.
Let’s say you went and purchased 50 new coffee cups to give away to business owners in your area, and on the side of the cup you put the advertising message of….guess who??? You! Imagine if your message was on the cup, then EVERYTIME they make a coffee and sit it on their desk, you’ll have your message infront of them for 15-20 munutes at a time…everyday. Not only that, staff will use also it and see the message….it’ll get passed around for years to come…until the cup breaks! Who knows, it might even be sold two years down the track amongst a bunch of ’stuff’ at a yard sale? Don’t laugh…this is great for you! You get mileage out of a small investment.
This may sound abit silly, but think about it this way. How many times have you simply thrown out a perfectly good coffee cup? Me, i’ve never just thrown one out for no reason…even if I don’t drink coffee, but I might drink tea, water or soda out of it when the other cups are dirty!
Now, what could you write on this coffee cup ‘gift’ that you’re giving away? Well it has to be something that catches their eye EVERYTIME they take a sip of the drink…. so, here’s a couple of suggestions on what you could print on the cup/mug (PS. This is why it’s smart move to have a website)
1) “Do You Have 50+ Spare Business Cards Sitting Around Doing Nothing?… go to www.(yourwebsite).com and Learn How to Turn Them into $$$”
2) “Free Business Advertising - We’ll Hand Out Your Business Cards for FREE… go to www.(yourwebsite).com to Find Out How”
These are suggestions that will eventually have them check your website. And if they don’t call you right away, someone eventually will who uses the cup. Notice these examples are really just headlines?
OF COURSE… you’ll do your ’sales pitch’ to them on the spot when you hand them the cup…and you’ll get some deals right away, but if you don’t get the deal then and there, it’s still building the long-term value of your business card advertising dispenser business.
So there’s a simple idea that’ll get you in the door of alot of businesses. It’s a nice ‘non-treatning’ approach and is also a GREAT conversation starter.
Most people who have a fear of approaching businesses would actually do really well…if only they could get the conversation started! You might like to put some candy in the cup also to ’sweeten’ the deal.
Some of you wouldn’t need to do use this idea to get deals, but some of you should certainly consider the option.
SUMMARY: Coffee cups sit around for along time… so why not have your message sitting on it! Think marketing all the time, and the leads will come.
Hope this helps. Let us know your thoughts about this….any entrepreneurs reading who would like to make a suggestion on this?

Here is an email that is producing about a 6% response rate and 74% close rate. I send emails to businesses and the subject is “Free Local Advertising”…then the body of the email is as follows…Of course I change it to apply to either clients, customers or patients. I think it is working because it is real…not fluffy…
“It’s simple…YOU want more clients and increased revenues!
I want to sell space on my Business Card Dispensers… and increase MY revenues!
To make it work…it has to be good for both of us!
I’ll place your business cards in one of my Business Card Dispensers in the Monroe Aquatic & Fitness Center, Monroe Country Club, Eagle Chase Golf Club,Napoli Italian Restaurant or other high foot traffic locations.
I’m so confident you’ll like my program…I’ll give you 1 month of free advertising to test it.
No money up front, no contracts! If at the end of a month you like the program…we agree and continue.
If not…we shake hands, wish each other well and move on. Fair enough?
If you want to proceed…call or email me. That’s it! Call or email today to reserve your exclusive location. Some categories may be taken”.
I go in with the impression that I don’t want to sell them now. I go under the assumption that all I want is a one month test. THEN I tell them that since it is offered on and exclusive basis…if one of their competitors decides to contract…I will have to remove them. You can guess what happens next…so far most go ahead and commit.
Good Luck

I’ve had a couple of really bad days and my tile business is slow at the moment, so I turn to this blog. Dean, I took a couple of sayings from your manual on pages 37 & 38 and Im in the middle of having them printed on business cards. I also ordered some magnets to place on some of the cars…I plan on putting them on certain vehicles and various places to churn up some leads. Found this idea ON THIS BLOG! Love it and can’t wait to see it work. I also plan on having my other business(tiling) as leverage if needed to land locations. Maybe the store needs some new tile or repair or maybe the person I talk to needs some work done at their own home. I still make money tiling, make great connections, and now have a new home for a display! Man I’m getting excited. Dean, I was curious if you would be interested in giving your opinion of my website when it is finished. Your experience would help alot—already has!
Thanks Jason

Oh yeh… you might be thinking “wouldn’t giving away pens with my message on it be alittle cheaper?”, well yes it would be cheaper, but not even close in terms of writing a big bold message that stands out. Pens only last a short time before they get snapped from stress, or half eaten by underpaid hungry staff
