Selling Advertising is Simple, But Not Easy - How to Get Started and Actually Earn a Living from Sales!
Do what the rich people do…own a business, and be in a hurry to make money at all times!
Business card display advertising is one of the cheapest ’real’ business opportunities around today, and the returns are very good… but like any business, you need to give it a push (and it’s simple once you know how to do it!).
Selling advertising isn’t going to be easy all the time…. but it can be made simple if you set a few ground rules for yourself and stick to them. It’s amazing what you can do if you just stick to the plan!
MOST PEOPLE MAKE EXCUSES & SCREW UP THEIR BUSINESS CARD ADVERTISING PLAN IN THE FIRST TWO WEEKS!
Why do I mention the above sentence? Well, I had a conversation with a biz card operator yesterday, and the good news was that he has 10 displays up and running … and is opening up 7 more locations very soon in New Zealand. I’ve also had conversations with people who have one display out there and others who have no displays located at all!
So how can this be? Is it the operator or the actual business opportunity itself that is at fault?
If you’re sitting around with spare displays in your garage, or if you’re using them to prop up a table … then what are you actually hoping for? There is no way someone is going to ask you about them and what they are…you have to tell them….that’s it…not rocket science!
The problem most people face who don’t succeed in sales is that they fail to execute the plan they had before even purchasing the business….and let me add that the plan for this particular business opportunity is pretty basic. The basic sales plan is….
1) Fill the front windows of your display with business cards so it’s not looking bland when showing the potential advertisers. As a sweetner before visiting the client, if you can have their business card in the front window of the display already before seeing them, then that would be a MUCH better look for you and certainly increase your chances of a sale. Using this ‘technique’ will show you’re paying attention to detail and making an effort. Good look!
2) Before setting out, make sure you’re dressed in a way that matches the clients you’re going to see. For example, if you’re going to hit accountants, real estate agents and lawyers, then something of a business look would work, but if it’s the local lawn mower man… then a suit would be to over the top. Matching and mirroring that’s called, and it’s an old sales technique that is used by the best in the sales business.
3) How about your car? If it’s a peice of crap, park around the corner!
4) Bang…just walk into the business with the display under your arm and catch them off guard! Once they see their business card in the front of the display already, that will take any heat out of the situation and make them suddenly feel really good (an unexpected stroke to their ego if you will) about themselves.
5) Did you get a “yes” or “no” from the last visit? Who cares! Just march on into the next store you see, and keep going!
The key is to have a simple plan…like “I’m going to walk into 5 places everyday, and if they say no, then i’m going to ask them for some of their business cards anyway, and tell them i’ll advertise their business in my advertising dispenser for free…. then i’ll go and tie them into a deal in a couple of weeks time”. See, if you can call them back two weeks later and say “Good news, those 10 business cards you gave me have been taken!”, then atleast it’s another point of contact! Most people fail in sales because they try once and that’s it. If that’s your attitude to business, then you’re in for a long haul. Follow up is the key to multiple sales, and it shows you’re not a ‘fly by night’ business!
As some of you may know, I trade currencies in the mornings then focus on the business card advertising opportunity in the afternoons. One of the main problems I had with trading in the beginning, was not sticking to the plan … and yes, I failed. After I finally tweeked and found what worked by persisting and not giving up, all the emotions were put aside and I started making money. This is no different to sales….
BUT MOST PEOPLE GIVE UP BEFORE THEY FIND WHAT ACTUALLY WORKS!
It’s like the stories you here about people digging for gold … only to find that if they only took two more shovels full of dirt out the ground they would have hit the jackpot (and someone else got it you find out a couple of days later)!
Just stay persistant and get through the hard times in the beginning. Once you get rolling, your confidence will be sky high and people will buy your energy that you exude about the concept…. they won’t be buying advertising, that’s for sure…they’ll be buying YOU!
This is the best business once you get it started!
For those of you who haven’t read my own personal book about how I struggled to get started, but then ‘cracked it’, you can get it for free with any purchase of my products that are specifically designed for people in this business. I give examples and also explain the whole process I went through to ‘get it’… and how I started a real business making good money.
So, don’t sit around a hope things happen, don’t eat food and make a coffee as an excuse when you should be on the phone doing deals, and don’t blame anyone accept yourself if you’re not making money. You and I and the wealthiest business people in this world all have 24hrs in the day, a brain, eyes and arms and legs…so why do they make big bucks? (I can tell you it’s not good luck).
Be in a hurry to make money!
I hope the above helps. Feel free to comment or leave any thoughts that come to mind, but don’t comment now if you could be using this time to get out there and make money with your displays instead

Good sound advice! I find myself chasing the next hot “thing” on the internet, business opportunities etc. I know i lack FOCUS. I need to find a way to simply put blinders on myself… ( like they put a horse). So i don’t get distracted by other things.
Good advice…keep it coming. I’m on the verge of making a breakthrough.

Hi Everyone, I’m the guy he talked about in New Zealand. I have today just placed my 17th display at a local fast food restaurant (turkish) I just went in with the machine and said how about it ! I then offered him 2 free slots in some of my other displays (at a hospital) to sweeten the deal.
I also signed up a real estate company into 10 displays yesterday at $1 a day per display - now I gave them their first and last month free to get the to sign up for 12 months. Do the math $10 a day for 10 months for a 20 minute meeting with a real estate company - $3040 and it was easy, I just said that they would be the only Real Estate company in those 10 displays. This is a GREAT opportunity but it doesnt happen by accident, you have to get out there and call on businesses, send out letters and make the calls - Its a numbers game, talk to lots of people and you WILL fill the displays.
