I’ve built the cost of the business cards into the offer so that it is part of the value. I’m using a local printer to have cards made up, and I can tweak the design so that it looks more like an ad - bigger print, simpler design. But you don’t want to get caught up in graphic design, I leave it to the printer and it’s included in the price. I’ve priced it at $495 for a year contract which includes 1000 business cards…

I am new to this business…waiting for my first displays. I have been designing and selling business cards and display ads for years. Now I am ready to offer advertisers good looking business cards with a means to distribute them. I am going to package each sale with a business card. My intention is to offer 1k for them to use as they like and 1k for the display. I hope to get some kind of special offer on the display cards to motivate prospects to call my advertisers. I look forward to learning and sharing with you.

Hi Dave,
Yes it’s a good idea to put offers on your card when you have the tools and the know how. Your experience writing sales copy is a great asset aswell!!!
Let us know what type of offer you put.
To everyone else…what type of offers are you putting, or are you considering putting???

Although I pitch the printing of cards in the offer, I have given a discount if the business person wants to use their own cards. When you print the cards, an offer or incentive can be added to make the card valuable as a redemption and tracking tool. One way to add value to a cusotmer’s card is to buy a rubber stamp with an offer and stamp the reverse side of the card. Stamping cards is no thrill, but doing a batch of 50 at a time is not a big deal.

I sell custom business cards and thought that business card displays would be a good add on business. I was thinking of only using my full color custom cards in the displays. So if a business wanted to be in the display I would need to provide a custom card for them. The displays would look professional and attractive. Any thoughts on how insisting businesses use a custom card would work?

jmandy,
I have been designing and selling cards for years and quite frankly I can turn around cards very inexpensively and I realize that probably is not the case for everyone. However, I am encouraging…almost demanding that advertisers offer discounts, buy one get one free etc..on their cards. I am printing 1k for the display with offers and an additional 1k for their normal use without offers. All are 4/1 and the ones for regular use are UV coated. Having the separate cards will help track how effective the “discount” cards are. I am basically making the card a coupon. You must make the advertisers understand that any “special” offers or discounts must have teeth in it. 2 cents off a bar of soap wont do it! Most CONSUMERS CAN/T RESIST COUPONS!

Packaging your advertising definitely works! I wrote an ad for an independent insurance agent yesterday and he wanted to use his cards…they were new and he had 1,000. They were very thin…looked good but thin. I told him the quallity would not work with my dispenser and since my price included cards…we had a deal!
GUESS WHAT? I walked out with an order not only for the ad…but 11 business cards for his staff and salespeople…I made more money on the other business cards than I did on the display ad. There is another income stream out there…use it!!

In your inital approach to the business owners, you must be prepared with your offer…know exactly what you offer is!
My personal experience tells me that you really need to build in printing to your offer, it just makes life so much easier as you progress with the client. For a couple of reasons:
1) You don’t have to go back to harass them for cards
2) You have nice fresh card stock
3) You can track how many cards have been taken at the drop of a hat (if you have to)
Printing is so cheap these days online, that it’s no big deal to get cards printed.
Look at it like a value added service…
I’ll eloborate on this further as we progress.
Let me know your thought!
