What to Write on the Front of Envelopes to Get Them Opened!
Hi Everyone,
Recently I tested a headline that worked. This headline was written on the front of an envelope (with a salesletter inside) while doing a small basic mail out to local business owners.
The main problem these days is getting your mail opened to begin with. The best way to improve the chances of someone reading/opening your promotional letter is to put a message on the front that gets them curious… as opposed to putting the normal everyday ‘targeted’ name and address on the front.
This method works for small ‘one man band’ type stores where the owner is behind the counter. You need to hand deliver the mail also. I know the thought of delivering the mail by hand sounds time consuming, but if you get 1-2 clients in a day, is it worth it?
Lets say you live in a city called ‘bizcardville’. The headline I used to get a great response was…
“Here’s How a Bizcardville Business Owner Went from Just $1200 p/w Profit to $1800 p/w in one month”
Now, the reason I believe it worked so well is because I kept it real, but unreal at the same time. I know perfectly well that most business owners don’t even make $1200p/w, so I said “just $1200″ to make them think “Hang on, I don’t even make that to begin with…. and I certainly don’t make $1800p/w!”
Marketing is all about psychology!

Dean, I’m curious as to what you said to the business owners after dropping off the sales letter. If you’re able to generate 1-2 new clients a day, then I wouldn’t consider your method time consuming at all. It would be well worth the investment.
