Here is a small list to look through…
plumbers, electricians, hairdressing salons, dentists, insurance companies, online banks, tour operators, gardeners, home maintenance, rubbish skip operators, excavator operators, motor mechanics, car rental companies, builders, landscape gardeners, computer technicians, book keepers, accountants, conveyancing companies, sign shops, beauty parlours, home help operatives, cleaning companies, hire companies, self storage companies, panel beaters, windscreen repairers, pest control companies, the list goes on and on.

Anyone who has a business card!
DON’T FORGET THE HOME BASED BUSINESSES!
It’s not just the businesses you see that can use your service, it’s the home based businesses that may be your best customers!
The people at home have no shop front … correct? So now you can say to them “being in 10 of my displays is like having 10 mini shop fronts in high traffic locations around the local area, while you work from the luxury of your own home!”

Anyone who has an ad in the business service directory in the local newspapers is a good prospect. These ads feature contractors and others doing at-home services. They often are home based and the contacts are usually a cell phone, as it’s rare they are home. I call them up and comment on their ad, ask them if they’d like to gain additional exposure in a highly desirable demographic (specific display you are targeting) and explain the silent employee marketing concept that the display offers. They’re usually receptive!

Other than Chiropractors…which buy ads in everything…anyone have experience selling to MD’s and other medical professionals.
Has anyone tried locating displays in hospitals or urgent care centers?

My Dentist leaves her cards at a Chiropractor down the street - just out on a table there. She stops by now and again and often finds that they are all missing. The receptionist doesn’t have a clue what keeps happening to them other than they get knocked off - the cleaning people throw them out - the kids play with them - whatever it is the cards are not walking back into the Dentist’s office. When I told her about the display she thought it was a fabulous idea and a much more professional way to reach clients in other professional offices.

Great!
I actually haven’t heard of any going into dentists as yet, but in my eyes, it’s a perfect location. Myself, I always look for something to read while waiting to have my check-up.
Another reason this is a smart location, is because dentists don’t really sell product to much. They do sell some items, but very specific. So I am thinking they would be very open to displaying other like minded businesses in the business card display dispenser that you locate in their practice.
Nice thinkin Nancy!

I agree that Dentists could be great…I am going after them. Many are also advertising various “whitening” procedures. Same with Opthalmologists and lasic surgery.
I love the ideas this blog produces…thanks to all that contribute.

Installing a machine in waiting rooms at hospitals, clinics, geriatric facilities, etc. will require a new client. Durable medical goods, hospice, oxygen, health care providers, long term health, insurers and others. Who are the others. I want to pretty much fill these before installation. Any great ideas available? Thanks, Dana

You are on target Dana…actually target locations for me..add pharmacies, med transportation, etc.to the hospitals and clinics and we are good to go! One of the best ideas I’ve used to get in these locations and others was (Andrews?) suggestion for putting “Supporting Austin’s Local Businesses” on the header. Local business owners LOVE it and are more receptive to allowing you to place a display.
Good Luck and us know any other categories…

Hi Dana,
Thanks for opening up this question alittle further, as i’m sure we all have surgeries and hospitals in our local area that a business card display board would suit.
Someone (I think dmiles) mentioned that they are going to target the reps that sell these types of products to advertise in his displays. The reps would obviously be prime targets, because they are in sales and have such a variety of products to offer.
Anything from cough drops, relaxation products, skin creams, breath freshner … or just about anything to do with health … like the local juice bar, health food store etc would be great people to advertise in your business card display boards.
Some locations may have slight restrictions as to what you put in there…for example, if you had your business card displays advertising board in an organic health food store, they may not want the local McDonalds, or the local liquor store in the display for obvious reasons. Hospitals may also have this type of criteria.
Simple. Just ask, what can I and what can’t I advertise in the display, and they will tell you.
If anyone has good ideas on who might like to advertise in this type of location, then please add your feedback so we can all go and make money with the ideas!

For any location, I had determined and accepted the fact that people like to have cash. As previously read in another post (sorry, can’t remember who) they mentioned to offer the location a chance to earn some cash and help fill the display. I budgeted $20 per month wallspace rent if I had to fill it myself; however, if the location wanted to help fill it, they could offer the display’s versatility to their suppliers. With that said, $100 per month ($5 per advertiser per month plus the $20 initial rent) to the location gives them incentive to fill it faster.
How many suppliers would a Health food store have? What about local gyms, spas, anywhere where they pamper and spoil you or make sure you experience something new and exciting (ie: rock climbing, dirt bike riding, local conservation area, etc)
Reaching people about their health has been targeted for a number of years now. Health food stores offer naturopathic alternatives to prescription meds, why not get alternative practicing medicine here as well?
As mentioned above about suppliers, once they learn that they can advertise in this location, surely they would want to investigate the possibility to enter other locations to expand their business. Not only that, offering discounts allow them even greater flexibility. Perhaps they want to promote a new product, with permission from the location, the store would honour the discount card, then be reimbursed on an upcoming order or invoice.
Wow, that’s it for me.
Hope this helps a little.

How about this for an approach to a Real Estate agent?
The average home price here in (insert your city/county/region as appropriate and price) Washington D.C. (I am actually in California) is $727,250. If you received just 2% in commission on a sale or buy that’s over $14,500. So what’s a client worth? Would you spend a dollar a day for a year to get 1 client?
At that point shut up and see what answer you get.
Just an idea.

ok , here is some locations i beleive they can get the attraction of the advertiser and customer :
1. the Hairdressing salon (specially the ladies one ) I have seen some of these shops have a very long waiting line ! now your advertisers will be : fittness clubs ! cosimatic & laser clinics! Daycares ! introduction agences ! and any business that provide service for girls and ladies !
2. Medical centre , your advertisers : injuries lawers ! , chiropractors , Message theropists , vision & eyes care business and any business care about healthy products.
Food court in the Mall : you can target any business that has a store or office in the mall ! most of the people who eats in the food court in the mall have nothing to look at beside the food !!
I think its very important to create matching between the location and the advertisers !

My opinion on the types of businesses that you would have the highest probability of getting the displays are the ones that sell higher ticket items.
For example: A real estate agent is would generally make a minimum of a couple of thousand dollars commission from a sale of a lower end property sale…so there for they would only need to make one sale per year to cover their costs with you.
Someone that sells air conditioning system or heating systems for homes would also only need to make one sale per year.
Now think about a massage therapist…they would have to make 5 sales per year to cover the costs…or would they??? What if they only get on client that becomes a repeat client for them.
At the end of the day, no matter which way you look at it, the average prices that you are charging to advertise is very low…so everyone wins with this type business card display advertising medium.
Thoughts and feedback please.
